China sees 9.7% yearly growth in industrial output

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on Tuesday that the industrial output of companies above a designated size increased 9.7 percent yearly in 2013. The ministry says China has fulfilled its target of cutting the energy consumption of per unit added-value by 5 percent. 
The ministry said industrial enterprises above designated size saw a total profit of 6.28 trillion yuan in 2013, growing more than 12 percent year on year. The ministry also set a 2014 target that large industrial companies should achieve a 9.5 percent growth in their output. The ministry says China made steady progress in its industrial restructuring last year by supporting high-tech manufacturing and phasing out outdated production capacities. Meanwhile, the ministry said China’s information consumption hit 2.2 trillion yuan in 2013, up 28 percent from a year earlier.
