The University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil has signed a deal with Microsoft , for the creation of a technology and society research center, according to a release by Microsoft.
The deal, which involves Microsoft investing US$720,000 in the center between 2013 and 2015, is the first of its kind in the region, and is intended to boost local research in technology and its relationship with society.
The center will be multidisciplinary, incorporating subjects such as law, economics, IT and computer science, and hopes to produce studies on topics such as the effect of cloud computing on SMEs, intellectual property in the software industry, and privacy and data protection in the digital world.
The facility is also intended to be a venue for international events and exchange initiatives, principally with the traditional software development hubs of Mexico and India, according to the release.
