Top Japan biz lobby ready to tolerate pay scale hikes

A committee at the Japan Business Federation, the nation's biggest business lobby known as Keidanren, adopted Wednesday a final draft of the group's guidelines for this year's "shunto" wage talks that show its tolerance of pay scale hikes.
While noting that wage levels should be decided by reflecting management's payment capabilities in principle, the draft, endorsed by the Management and Labor Policy Committee, says firms capable of distributing the benefits of their improving earnings to employees should consider various methods to realize wage hikes.
