Rakuten Inc. Chairman and President Hiroshi Mikitani was awarded the rank of chevalier of Legion d'honneur by the French government on Monday in recognition of his economic and cultural contribution.
Mikitani earned France's premier medal of honor for the leading Japanese online shopping mall operator's buyout of PriceMinister SA, a major French e-commerce firm, in 2010.Also behind the conferment is Mikitani's involvement in the Japan Expo, an annual exhibition of Japanese culture in a Paris suburb.
